What To Look For In A San Diego Internet Marketing, Social Media or SEO Company

So you want to tap into the power of the Internet and sell more goods and/or services online. You’ve got plenty work on your plate already and you want to farm out your Internet marketing work.

How do you go about finding a company or consultant who you can trust and who will make you more money than you spend with them?

It can be a little bit like trying to find a trustworthy mechanic. They know all the technical details of their field and they can speak the lingo and you’re not sure whether to believe them or not.

How do you keep from getting burned? How do you find somebody great who has a good chance of doubling or tripling your income?

I been an Internet marketing consultant for over 12 years and I’ve helped companies make millions of dollars. If I had to give somebody a list of things to watch out for when hiring an Internet marketing consultant I would offer this advice:

1)  Ask for a list of references and call them. If an Internet marketing company does not have some phone numbers of people they have helped who are currently ranking well in the search engines, run for the hills screaming.

2)  Look for someone who is a member of the Better Business Bureau. If they are a member of the BBB, you can easily check to see who has been complaining about them. You can also see if they are a member in good standing are not.

3)  See if they’re willing to give you a free in person, no obligation consultation or not. You should be able to meet with them in person to see if you feel comfortable working with them and if you feel like you can trust them. Make sure you meet with the person who will be creating the strategy for your account and who will be your contact person. You should know who you will be dealing with before you sign anything.

4)  They should be willing to give you full transparency and a digital paper trail of anything they do on your behalf.  Google is getting very picky and will penalize you for all kinds of things these days. You need to know exactly what an Internet marketing firm is doing on your behalf because Google will hold you responsible. If some Internet marketing firm tries to tell you that their methods are proprietary and they cannot tell you what they’re going to be doing for you, this is a serious red flag. Run for the hills screaming.

5)  Have they been in business for at least five years? Things happen in the search engine world pretty quickly and it may be more stable for you to do business with a company that has been around for a while and plans to stay around for a while. If someone has been in business for at least five years then they must know how to get search engine rankings for people or they would not have stayed in business that long.

6)  Don’t start out by signing a contract longer than six months. The search engine company should be able to get you some results within six months. Signing an initial agreement with an Internet marketing company for longer than that (when you don’t know them very well) may put you at risk.

In summary, be sure to check for references and try to get somebody who has enough accountability to register with the Better Business Bureau.  By hiring a quality Internet marketing company you can possibly double or triple your income. Just don’t rush in too fast. Do your due diligence so you don’t get burned.
